Acupuncture
Traditional Chinese Medicine recognizes that there is a force in the universe that transfers energy from one location to another: from sun to leaf, from air to body, from cell to cell. This force is called qi. When there is enough qi in the body and its flow through the body is not blocked, then the body functions efficiently. When the body lacks qi, often energy is low and body systems do not function well. When qi is blocked, there is pain. Acupuncture stimulates the flow of qi by the activation of specific points on the body with tiny needles.

Chinese Herbal Medicine
Chinese herbal formulas reinforce acupuncture treatments, treat chronic conditions, and can be used for certain acute conditions as well. Most Chinese herbal formulas are comprised of 4 to 10 ingredients, each of which has been chosen for its specific function in the body. A formula is balanced so that it does not push the body too far in one direction. For animals taking Chinese herbal medicine, it is common to see improvement in overall health as well as the specific area of treatment.

TuiNa Massage
Some animals are needlephobic and do better with acupressure and massage rather than acupuncture. TuiNa offers an option for these animals to be treated.TuiNa can help calm an anxious patient before an acupuncture treatment. Dr. Kate also likes to teach her clients specific TuiNa techniques that they can practice on their own dogs and cats as continued home care between acupuncture treatments.

Chinese Dietary Therapy
Traditional Chinese Medicine seeks to balance all of the qualities in the body: hot/cold, damp/dry, yin/yang. Every food has a different effect upon the body. Like a Chinese herbal formula, the diet needs to be balanced so that it does not push the body too far in one direction. Diet can also be used to help harmonize an unbalanced body. Dr. Kate formulates therapeutic diets for her patients that help restore balance and vitality.

Customized Dietary Supplements
Dr. Kate formulates "Superpowders" that combine a number of supplements formulated specifically for your dog or cat. They are typically short term treatments (1-2 months) to replenish deficiencies.
